Fusion Dance Center utilizes a Dress Code that allows for a uniform look in class, keeping all kids on equal ground with less distractions, and giving you the flexibility to choose styles, textures, and price points that are best for your dancer. Please go to our Online Nimbly Store and search for your dancer’s Class Level (Explorers, Protostars, Rising Stars, Super Stars, Super Novas) to see the required dance wear colors, styles, and shoes for your classes. In the store, select the Class Level and you will see the classes offered for that level. Click on the class name to see a list of items recommended for class. Items that say “Required” are an example of the dance wear required for class. You may purchase any item available in that color anywhere. You do not have to purchase through this store, but if you purchase on your own please be sure to select the appropriate color and styles for the class that as closely match the colors in the store as possible. For students identifying as male or those that do not adhere to traditional female attire, please follow THIS LINK for dance wear options.

Reasons a Dress Code Makes for a Better Class:
Safety - A dress code ensures that all dancers will have adequate mobility during class or rehearsal. Improper attire can negatively impact technique, precision, ability to grip the floor, and visibility. We have seen several dancers perform incorrect technique because of their attire, which can lead to injuries.
Increased Focus - Each dress code is chosen so the dancer can move to the best of their ability and focus on their steps, not on what they are wearing. No matter if they are beginners or advanced, dancers need to eliminate distractions so they can learn and perform to their best ability and focus on the movement itself. Even wearing dance clothes that are a different color can be distracting to some young children. Clothes that don’t allow proper movement, not having the correct shoes, and hair falling in a dancer’s face can distract dancers and pull their attention away from learning. Even in an ideal situation, it can be challenging to keep young children and adolescents focused; a dress code eliminates the distraction of their own or other's clothing and places the focus on their expression through movement. One of our goals is to teach them to express their individuality through the art of movement, and a dress code allows the focus to be placed on that teaching.
Respect - Adhering to the dress code teaches respect towards the dance style being studied. We believe that each genre's traditions and history should be taught and honored in class. A dress code is part of this teaching. As dancers progress into higher levels, following the dress code shows that they are serious about improving and developing their dance skills. This is echoed in our color scheme as the dancer's get older the colors become more serious in nature.
Body Positioning - When dancers wear proper attire, it helps the instructor and the dancer better see how their bodies move and what muscle groups are involved in each movement. This body awareness allows dancers to create stronger bonds between themselves and other dancers and creates a bond throughout the class. Instructors can much more easily see what adaptations are needed for both individuals and groups.
Confidence and Attitude - Clothes that fit the dance genre can make a dancer feel more confident not only in their moves but in the style they are dancing. When a person feels they are dressed for the class, they often feel more ready to embody that genre’s dance culture, honoring its roots. Merely putting a dancer in proper dance attire can completely change their posture and a dancer feels more confident and willing to take on the challenge of any new step or skill in that genre. Mindset shift can completely change a dancer's performance and willingness to learn.
Sense of Community and Motivation - Wearing the same dance wear as your classmates can create a sense of community and belonging to something unique. Just as any sports team requires a uniform or certain attire, dance is no different. It creates a sense of being on the same team when you are in class and teaches the importance of working together; afterall, dance class is often about moving in unity with one focus! In addition, the leveling colors will create a sense of motivation and pride when a dancer moves up into “the next color.” It’s a small reward for hard work! Sometimes it’s the little things that provide that extra motivation and sense of achievement.
